Entries for the 27th edition of the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race have been open for just over one month and already 28 owners have signed on for the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's annual winter pilgrimage north.

Henry Kernot, Maclean Paton and Rosie Lee steered the Commodores' Shout to victory in the Kellett Shield fleet racing regatta this weekend. The Youth Sailing Academy welcomed Henry back to the CYCA following a year of match racing overseas and his experience was obviously shared with his crew as all three had one win each for this regatta.

Those seas and wind against current will pose the first major tactical decision for skippers - whether to head offshore to find the northerly current that acts as a sort of conveyor belt south, but at the cost of pounding into steeper, bigger waves which can damage the boat, or to stay inshore where the waves should not be as steep.
